Simon just went to Daddy, held out his plate and asked for more.

"Helping"

Simon loves helping with the housework.
Sometimes he's more help than other times.
Like today when he accidently tipped a cup of water all through the kitchen. Or yesterday when he tried to stack the dishwasher and dropped the plate and broke it.
Small frustrations aside, I'm really pleased to see how he genuinely desires to help. He will often hand me containers and tissues when he's done using them, rather than dropping them and today at a cafe he took the saucers and cups back to the counter.
Please pray that we would be able to foster this attitude and bring up a house trained young man.

Eskimo Suit

You may remember the eskimo suit from last year. It's still just as cute this year, especially when he's running around in it.

What noise does a duck make?

'Baa' according to Simon and a fish goes 'woof woof'.

New Jim Jams

Grandma bought Simon some new jammies. Thanks Grandma!

King of the (Sand) Castle

Our patio is being retiled. So the builders placed a big pile of sand in the middle of it. Simon was able to have a play before it got turned into concrete.

Climbing

Simon's mobility is taking off in leaps and bounds. His latest self imposed challenge is climbing into tight spots. Here he is in his toy cupboard,
and in the bottom of his pram.

Easter

Simon crammed lots of things into this Easter. He got to hang out with Gran and Gramps as well as Grandma and Grandpa. After church on Good Friday he informed us that 'God . . . save' which we were very proud of and on Saturday he had his first Easter egg hunt and ate his first egg.
Finding the first egg of the hunt.
Searching . . . .
success!
Putting all his eggs in one basket
and then trying to make off with it.
Discovering there's something under the foil.
and it tastes good.

All finished.

Big Boy Bed

Simon's bed has been converted to a toddler bed. This is his first time sleeping in it.
We converted the bed in the hope that Simon would get out and play quietly with his toys so we could sleep later in the morning. Instead Simon calls out for us until we go in, then he hops out of bed and plays (loudly) with his toys.
Mummy also made Simon a quilt to go with his new bed. He seems to like it and cuddles it as he sleeps.

First solid sole shoes. Too excited to stand still for a photo.

Gardening

Simon and Mummy have been doing some gardening. Simon has been learning the different between weeds and plants (i.e. Mummy gets upset when he pulls out the plants) and that plants need leaves for food so we can't pull them all off.
These are our beans. They have been our most successful plants so far. Despite being attacked by snails and caterpillars they are still growing. They have just started to flower so we should have our first harvest soon.
Simon took this photo of the carrots (hence the finger). You can also see some baby lettuce from some seeds that got spilt.

The parable of the cardboard house

There was a man who built a house out of cardboard. The rain came down and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great splash.

Cuddles

Simon gives cuddles without being asked sometimes.

Shape O

Simon still loves playing with his shape O.
But now he can find the correct holes himself (sometimes).
But some shapes are really confusing, like the cross and the star. They have so many pointy bits!

Bible Reading

Simon still really enjoys reading his bible. He will sometimes get it off the bookshelf and will 'read' it to himself.

The coolest thing is that he knows what his bible is and is able to get it off the shelf, bring it over to us to read and then return it to the right spot when we ask him.

Getting dressed

Simon tried to dress himself. He started by taking the shirt off that Mummy had already put on him. But he could only get if off his head, not his arms.
Then he tried to put his pants on his head.
Mummy took over after that.

Helping

Simon really likes helping with the housework. He has his own cloth to wipe things with.
He also likes to push the vacuum around. But since we only have one vacuum it's often not very helpful and if Mummy's in a rush there can sometimes be tears.

Mud Cake

Simon helped to make a mud cake.

Zoo

Simon has been to the zoo twice! He likes the elephants,
the lion
and the stone platypus.
There are lots of things to find and point to at the zoo. I'm not sure what he's interested in here since he's pointing in two directions.
Simon was surprisingly good at locating small animals in the nocturnal exhibit, he often found them before I did.

Tidying Up

We have been working on teaching Simon to put things away when he's finished with them for a while. It's been really exciting to (occasionally) see him put a toy away without being prompted.
But this was topped today when we picked him up from creche at church today. Simon saw Daddy come in and carefully took all the pieces of duplo apart and put them back in the box before giving Daddy a hug. Yay!
If only this happened all the time.

Cooking

Simon gave Mummy a cooking set for Christmas. It has an apron, some spoons and an oven mitt for him.
The oven mitt is yet to be used since Simon's not allowed near the oven.
Simon has been enjoying helping cook. He especially likes sticking his fingers in the bowl and licking them when he thinks Mummy's not looking.

Goodbye Darlington, Hello Newtown!

The Bakers have moved! Which is why the blog hasn't been updated for a bit - the internet was connected this morning.
Simon got the spend the weekend that we moved at Gran and Gramp's house. Mummy and Daddy packed up the house and moved it in the three days that he spent there. One of the most important things to take was the name on Simon's door.

There are lots of things to like about our new house. It has outdoor space, so we now have a BBQ and sometimes eat dinner outside.
The outdoor space means that Simon now has some bigger toys. This includes a cubby house which he helped Daddy to make.

Unlike our old house, the new house has baby gates. Simon's not a big fan of them.
