Merry Christmas Everyone

Dear everyone,

Thanks for your interest in Simon and for reading this blog
Have a very Merry Christmas
Love Peter, Pamela and Simon

PS. It took 43 photos to get his glamour shot - some of the others were a bit different...

One of My Favourite Things

Simon loves mobiles. He used to have one of Eeyore, Piglet, Tiger and Pooh above his bed and he'd watch it go round and round. He got so attached to it he'd whimper whenever it stopped until we wound it up again.

He also likes his cats on bikes mobile. He likes to sit in his bouncer and swipe it and watch it move.

Rolling Over

Simon is working on rolling over. He's pretty good at getting from his back to his side.

But he's struggling to get from his side to his front.

Sometimes he tries to roll over in his sleep.

It doesn't work too well.

Simon's Outing

Simon went to Sydney Aquarium and Wildlife World yesterday with Mum, Auntie Nell and Uncle Luke.

Simon slept through some of it.

He didn't like being under the sea.

With koalas,

And in a tree.

Simon's getting big!

Simon went to the doctors for his vaccinations and to get measured about 2 weeks ago. He was 61 cm long, which means he grew 14cm in 8 weeks. and was 5.2 kg.
As part of his vaccinations Simon had his first taste of something other than milk. He wasn't too impressed with the baby panadol he was given before his shots, and then he tried to spit out the oral vaccination, but the doctor managed to get most of it back in.
Simon also cried loudly for his shots. Mum almost joined him.

Simon's Recent Adventures

Still beautiful when he's sleeping.

Auntie Jess gave me this cool new train driver's outfit. Pirate Hoodie! Not as excited about the group shot as Mum and Dad.Reflecting on the hard early years in the ghetto.

New Threads

You're just jealous because your hat doesn't match your cardigan.

Simon is getting big...

...but he's still not that big.
However, he is starting to enjoy bath time.

All my babies out there, let me hear you say "ah!"

Simon has (possibly) started responding to sounds and mimicking them.
Although David Hume would say that just because Pamela made a noise then Simon made a noise afterwards doesn't mean that the first caused the second (and I would tend to agree), it's still pretty cool.

Simon's Growing Up

It's really amazing to see Simon develop and change. He started making sounds (other than crying) about 10 days ago and yesterday he starting joining two sounds together. His first double sound was aahooh.

Simon's also started sleeping for longer at night time. He had a feed at 7 last night, went to sleep at 9 and didn't wake up until 4:30. So he went for almost 10 hours between feeds and slept for almost 8. Because I went to sleep at the same time as him, I think that just about counts for sleeping through the night.

What Simon has done this week

Simon went to the doctors for the first time on Monday. At the doctors he got his jaundice checked (he's still slightly jaundiced but it's not too bad) and he got weighed. Simon has grown a lot since he was born. He now weighs 4.5Kg. So he's now right on average for his age.

Simon has also learnt to dribble and suck his thumb this week. Although often when he tries to suck his thumb he can't get his thumb untangled from his fingers and ends up sucking his fist instead which is very cute.

Simon's vocabulary is also expanding. It now includes ooh, eh, meh and a few others I couldn't work out how to spell.

Talking

Simon can't talk yet.

He's working on it though and has recently added 'aah' noises to his vocabulary.

A Week of Firsts

Simon had a big week.

On Friday he wore shorts for the first time.

They were a bit big on him and looked more like pants.

On Saturday Simon went to his first wedding (Congratulations Ev and Leesh). He got hungry so he missed most of the ceremony and as we arrived for the reception he got hungry again and missed the first bit. But after that he had a great time meeting lots of Mum and Dad's friends. He got lots of cuddles.

On Saturday Simon also went to both Gran and Gramp's house and Grandma and Grandpa's house for the first time. He spent the night at Grandma and Grandpa's with Mum. He missed his Dad as Dad had to go to work and spent the night at home.

On Sunday Simon went out for breakfast to celebrate Uncle Luke's birthday. After breakfast he went to the beach for the first time.

On Sunday afternoon Simon got to meet Great Grandma and Great Grandpa for the first time. Great Grandma really enjoyed holding Simon.

On Monday Simon slept for most of the day to recover from his big weekend.

On Tuesday Mum went out to bible study and left Dad to look after Simon by himself for the first time. Simon liked the time with Dad and is looking forward to it happening again.

Toys and Hugs

Simon likes to play with his rattle. On Wednesday he waved it around for the first time.

On Thursday not only did he wave it around but he followed it around with his eyes.
Simon also likes hugs and has been hugging Dad and Mum.

Smiles

On Thursday Simon looked at Mum and smiled!

Baby Bjorn

Last Saturday Simon received a Baby Bjorn from Auntie Maddie and Uncle Olly.

Simon really likes being in the Baby Bjorn and will usually fall asleep within a few minutes of being put in it.

Simon's biggest trip in the Baby Bjorn so far has been to visit Gran at work on Thursday.

The trip started off with Simon's first train ride from Redfern to St James. Gran met us at the front of Parliament House and we all went to have lunch in the Parliament House Dining Room. As this was Simon's first time in a restaurant, he spent a look of time looking around. After lunch Gran took Simon for a tour of the offices, so that Simon could meet all her friends. As we went to leave, Simon experienced his first protest out the front of Parliament House.

After such a big day Simon was very hungry and after he had some food he had a long nap to recover.

Sleep

The other thing that Simon really likes doing is sleeping.

He likes to sleep in his cradle
and in his sleeping bag.

He likes to sleep on Dad (and Mum).

Sometimes he is awake, and when he is he is very cute.

Food Glorious Food

Simon likes eating. A lot.

He likes eating so much that when the nurse came to weigh him yesterday he weighed 3.1kg. Apparently that's a huge weight gain in such a short time.

Praise God that Simon is eating so well. Feeding is going reasonably smoothly and he is such a settled baby that I've been able to get enough sleep. Please pray for Peter as he has exams coming up.
