Smiles

On Thursday Simon looked at Mum and smiled!

Baby Bjorn

Last Saturday Simon received a Baby Bjorn from Auntie Maddie and Uncle Olly.

Simon really likes being in the Baby Bjorn and will usually fall asleep within a few minutes of being put in it.

Simon's biggest trip in the Baby Bjorn so far has been to visit Gran at work on Thursday.

The trip started off with Simon's first train ride from Redfern to St James. Gran met us at the front of Parliament House and we all went to have lunch in the Parliament House Dining Room. As this was Simon's first time in a restaurant, he spent a look of time looking around. After lunch Gran took Simon for a tour of the offices, so that Simon could meet all her friends. As we went to leave, Simon experienced his first protest out the front of Parliament House.

After such a big day Simon was very hungry and after he had some food he had a long nap to recover.

Sleep

The other thing that Simon really likes doing is sleeping.

He likes to sleep in his cradle
and in his sleeping bag.

He likes to sleep on Dad (and Mum).

Sometimes he is awake, and when he is he is very cute.

Food Glorious Food

Simon likes eating. A lot.

He likes eating so much that when the nurse came to weigh him yesterday he weighed 3.1kg. Apparently that's a huge weight gain in such a short time.

Praise God that Simon is eating so well. Feeding is going reasonably smoothly and he is such a settled baby that I've been able to get enough sleep. Please pray for Peter as he has exams coming up.

Simon has also made a few friends.
He has met Del
And Suds
And Aiden. ('I've caught bugger fush then thus, eh!')
He has met Penny, Simon, Jeremy and Becky
And Uncle Seredork.
He has met Jill
and Cathy.
He has met Katie the midwife who took extra-good care of him and his Mum.
He has met Bernie
And Katie
And Nick
And Bron
He has also met Emily and Liv
Bek and Azaria (and Weber)
And Al
And Red (and Jules)
And of course he loves his Mum
And his Dad
Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to drop in and meet the little fellow during his first week. I have spoken to Simon and he's very keen to keep meeting more friends, so make sure you come and say hi!

Simon and the Family

Simon is working hard at meeting the whole family.

So far he has met Grandma and Grandpa
Gran and Gramps
Great-Grandma
(who gave him a lovely blanket)
Auntie Deanna
Auntie Janelle
Uncle Luke
Uncle Tom and Auntie Mandy
Uncle Olly
Letitia
and Auntie Maddie

One Week Old

He celebrated by heading to the park for the first time, rocking his new hat:
And hanging out with Mum: And Dad.Until it all got too much and it was time to head home.
Simon's life is rich and varied, including eating, sleeping, and pooing. He does all three very well. Thanks for your prayers for this little guy, and above all thanks to God, who calls into being things that are not.

Peter.

We're Home

Simon has now spent the first night in his own bed at home.

He has also now been outside for the first time, seen sunlight and been to a birthday party. He also got his first ride in his chariot that Grandma and Grandpa bought him. He thought it was pretty cool.

Simon also likes his bed.

Which is good because he'll be spending a lot of time in it.

Peter introduced Simon to music yesterday. The first ever piece of music to grace Simon's ears was Everything in it's Right Place by Radiohead. Simon has now heard a lot more Radiohead.

Simon is settling into home well. Please pray that Pete and I would be patient with Simon as we work out how to look after him. Visitors are still very welcome, we just ask that you call before you come.

If Anyone Needs Me, I'll Be Busy Looking Good

I feel compelled to inform you that Simon is awesome.
He eats well, he sleeps well, and in the near future will be using his good looks to make a tidy living on the side as a male model.Although hopefully his current interest in nude photography will subside as his modelling career progresses.
I'm so thankful to God for my beautiful son - for both Pamela and Simon to have come through the whole process of pregnancy and birth so well, and for Simon to be such a peaceful and wonderful baby, is a great gift of God. Not only is he such a good baby, but today he passed his hearing test (a great thing, since genetics is somewhat stacked against him). This doesn't mean that he won't develop a hearing loss later in life, but it is a good sign.
I have a lot to be thankful for.

Also, today Simon managed his first real poo (now that's something to really be proud of), and had another bath.
I call it, 'Bath Time as Bearded Stranger Looks On'
In a fit of pique he successfully weed on his dad for the very first time. His wrath appeased by said action, he promptly went to sleep.

If you're reading this blog I'm afraid I can't promise it will get any more interesting. I love everything Simon does, and I shamelessly stare at him while he sleeps.
'Hi! My Name is Simon' will continue to bring you the kind of minutiae regarding Simon's life that only a parent (or the God of the universe) could be interested in.

But if you've got some exams to avoid studying for, say tuned.

Peter.

Marketing

Whether you're selling a million pixels on your homepage at $1 a pop, trading up from a paperclip to a house, or just flogging Britney's toenail clippings, it seems like any site on the Wide Wide World of Web needs a solid gimmick to bring on the Alexa love and SMH puff piece coverage.

So here's what I'm thinking.

In the Comments, leave your suggestion for Simon James Baker's second middle name. I'm personally leaning towards 'Obi-Wan', but may the best suggestion win. When it comes to Births, Deaths and Marriages paperwork time, the winner will get to see their suggested name occupying pride of place just behind 'James' on the coveted 'Other Names' space Field of Dreams (subject to Terms and Conditions - see below).

For you theological students, you might like to include an argument for the supreme method of baptism, and if your argument is convincing enough, you'll be calling the shots when it comes to baptism time. Infant? Believer's? Splash? Full immersion? Sacred Jordan River water? Formation waterskiing? Let the debate begin!
(Again, it should be said, fully subject to Terms and Conditions)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Here's the deal - Pamela's still in the hospital and, as yet, has not seen this blog. This means that at this stage I have complete creative control, but there is probably the off-chance that Pamela may just possibly sabotage any attempt to include the rightful competition winner's entry on the Birth Certificate. Proceed at your own risk...

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Operation 'Survive the First 24 Hours' was a complete success.
Our primary objective was achieved with only minor casualties, notably in Sleep Division.

Secondary objectives 'First Bath' and 'Meet the Relos' are also to be judged successful.

(this one is actually from last night)

On a related note, damn it feels good to be a gansta.
If you would like to pray for Simon then please ask God that he would get the hang of attaching when it's time for a feed.

Peace on out,

Pete
